Make sure your phone connection is as free from line noise as possible. This means splitters, "Y" cables, extensions, very long lines (beyond 25 feet), surge protectors, and fax machines, can cause excessive line noise.  We have learned from experience that 800 telephone lines are more sensitive to noise and degradation of signal than your local dial up to the internet.

Common Errors:

Red Portfolio

  1. Click on individual portfolio to select it.
  2. Click on Portfolios on the menu Bar.
  3. Under Portfolios, click Ignore to Ignore Portfolio.
  4. Re-download.
  5. Repeat process to Un-ignore portfolio.
Common Error Messages:

"Dialing Error"

  1. Check for dial tone.
  2. If you need to dial a special number to call out, such as "9" please enter this in the Quote Monkey dial up wizard
"Set Addr: Cannot Convert Host Address...."
  1. You have spaces in the Access Code. Please remove.

"RS-232 error code 36"

  1. This is a Com port error. If you use any other program to download information or access the internet, it may not have released the com port.
  2. Please close all programs running and re-boot your computer.
  3. Make sure you have selected the correct Com port setting.
"Bad Password"
  1. Password is incorrect.
"Invalid User Name or Password"
  1. Your account is active, however your credit card may have been declined, or may have expired.
  2. Please call Primate to reinstate your account to current.
"Cannot access selected portfolio"
  1. The portfolio may be locked in another program ie. Metastock, or any charting program that reads your Metastock files.
  2. You cannot have QM running/open at the same time as your charting program if they are trying to access the same files/directories/portfolios.
  3. Portfolio may have been deleted/erased. Please click the add portfolio icon in the menu bar and scroll down the list of folders to locate your portfolio.
"Range Check Error", "Run time Error", "Floating Point Operation"
  1. Please call Primate Tech Support.
OTHER TIPS

If you are not getting current quotes...

  1. You may be downloading too early. Please note that Primate is in the Pacific time zone. Our data is not accessible for today's data until AFTER 3:30pm PST. (stocks & Futures) After 4:30 pm PST. (Mutual funds & everything else)
  2. Check to be sure the symbols you are trying to download are correct.
  3. The symbol may have changed, or stopped trading.

Software programs that can cause problems with the Primate downloader.
    Zip Magic
    Zip Magic has the ability to change zip folders into data files by going to properties (in zip magic) then to zip folders and uncheck the category "show zip as folders."

    Anti-Virus Software
    Anti Virus Software can lock a file and Quote Monkey will not be able to use it.  If you receive an error like "File Locked by Another Program" or "Error in Load Symbol List:" or "Fatal Exception: Master File in use by Another Program".

    Go to your file (the one that you cannot access in Quote Monkey) on your hard drive and right mouse click then choose properties.  Now uncheck the box at the bottom that says "Read Only" and then click "OK".

    Fire Wall Software
    Can deny Quote Monkey access to the internet.  Call in to tech support for help with configuring Fire Walls.

    Defragments RAM.
